Turn passive constructions into direct active sentences.
A better writing workflow
Convert passive voice to active voice
Passive voice puts the action before the person or thing doing it: “The report was written by the team.” Active voice puts the actor first: “The team wrote the report.” Active sentences are usually shorter and clearer. The converter rewrites passive constructions into active ones and leaves the rest of your text alone.

How to spot passive voice
Look for a form of “to be” followed by a past participle.
is / are / was / were / been / being + a verb such as written, made or reviewed.
An optional “by …” phrase that names the actor.
Sentences where it is unclear who did the action.
03
When passive voice is the right choice
Passive voice is not a mistake. Keep it when the actor is unknown or unimportant, when the object is the real topic, or when your field’s style expects it, as in many methods sections. Review each converted sentence and keep the passive version where it reads better.
04
When the actor is missing
If a passive sentence does not say who did the action, an active rewrite has to name someone. Check that the actor in the rewrite is correct; replace “we”, “they” or “the team” with the right subject.
