Paraphrasing means saying the same idea in different words, not inventing new ideas or hiding where they came from. The Paraphraser rewrites sentences and paragraphs in one of four modes and keeps facts and important terms in place, so you can compare the result with your original and use the version that reads best.
01
Four modes for different jobs
Pick the mode that matches where the text is going.
Standard: balanced rewording for general use.
Fluent: smoother flow and more natural transitions.
Formal: more academic or professional vocabulary.
Simple: shorter sentences and plainer words.
02
Illustrative example
Original: “The study found that participants who slept fewer than six hours performed worse on memory tasks.” Formal: “Participants who slept less than six hours showed poorer performance on memory tasks.” Simple: “People who slept under six hours did worse on memory tests.” The finding and the number stay the same in every version.
03
Paraphrasing and citation
A paraphrase of someone else’s idea still needs a citation. Rewording without credit is still plagiarism.
Cite the source after paraphrasing, in the style your course uses.
Use the Citation Generator to format the reference.
Run the Plagiarism Checker if you are unsure how close the wording is.

Paraphraser FAQ
Is paraphrasing the same as citing?
No. Paraphrasing changes the wording; citing credits the source. When the idea comes from someone else, you need both.
Can it process several paragraphs at once?
Yes. Paste several paragraphs or upload a TXT, DOC or DOCX file up to 10 MiB. Review long results paragraph by paragraph.
Will it change numbers, names or technical terms?
It is instructed to keep meaning and verified facts, but always check figures, names and terms afterwards. Any AI rewrite can make mistakes.
Which mode should I use for an essay?
Formal for academic tone, or Fluent if the draft is already formal but reads awkwardly. Then edit the result in your own voice.
Can I paraphrase into another language?
Output can stay in the same language or be set to English, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, French or German. For full translation, the AI Translator is a better fit.
