Can Grammarly, QuillBot, ChatGPT or Claude Humanize AI Text?
Grammarly and QuillBot both offer AI humanizers and both say they are not built to beat detectors. ChatGPT and Claude can rewrite text on request. Here is what each one offers and where a dedicated humanizer differs.
Yes, all four can rewrite AI text in some way. Grammarly and QuillBot now have dedicated AI humanizers, and both say plainly that they are not designed to get past AI detectors. ChatGPT and Claude will rewrite text if you ask, with no detector-specific features at all.

Grammarly
Grammarly's free AI Humanizer "offers basic humanization", and a free account adds a Humanizer agent with four voices, a custom voice from a writing sample of 200 words or more, and six languages. The full experience needs Grammarly Pro (Grammarly; user guide). Grammarly states the tool "is not intended to bypass AI detectors" and adds that "using an AI humanizer to disguise the use of AI may be considered unethical".
On the detection side, Turnitin says ordinary Grammarly grammar fixes were mostly not flagged in its tests, while output from Grammarly's generative features "will likely be flagged as AI-generated" (Turnitin FAQ).
QuillBot
QuillBot's AI Humanizer is a separate tool from its Paraphraser. A QuillBot blog post from August 2026 says the free plan humanizes "up to 100 words at a time" and that Premium costs $8.33 a month on an annual subscription; we could not confirm those figures on QuillBot's product page. QuillBot's help center says the humanizer does not try to trick detectors, that "false positives are common" with AI detectors and that humanized content "can still be flagged".
ChatGPT and Claude
You can paste a draft into ChatGPT or Claude and ask for a rewrite in a different tone. That gives you full control over the instructions, and none of the structure: you have to restate what to keep, which tone to use and how much to change in every prompt.
OpenAI's own view of detection is skeptical. It withdrew its AI text classifier in July 2023 "due to its low rate of accuracy", and its educator FAQ answers "Do AI detectors work?" with "In short, not in our experience" (OpenAI; OpenAI help).
Where a dedicated humanizer differs
- Settings stay visible. Mode, style, purpose and keywords to keep are chosen once, not retyped in every prompt.
- You can check the result. RewriteMax includes an AI Detector that uses ZeroGPT's detection API.
- Results are published. In our October 2026 test, ZeroGPT labeled all 60 Balanced rewrites of AI-written texts human-written (test). We have not measured Grammarly's or QuillBot's humanizers.
Common questions
Does Grammarly humanize AI text?
Yes. Its AI Humanizer rewrites AI text into a more natural voice, with a free basic version. Grammarly says it is not intended to bypass detectors.
Can QuillBot humanize AI text?
Yes, with its AI Humanizer, which is separate from the Paraphraser. QuillBot says humanized text can still be flagged.
Can ChatGPT humanize its own text?
It can rewrite text you give it. It has no built-in way to check how the result scores on a detector.
