Turnitin describes its AI writing detection as a tool that helps educators, publishers and researchers spot when AI writing tools, text spinners or AI bypassers may have been used in student submissions. Turnitin says its English model is trained and tested on leading paraphraser and bypasser tools, and it is used by schools and universities through institutional licenses. It also says it may miss some AI text in order to keep false positives low.

Turnitin bypass FAQ

What is Turnitin?

Turnitin is a similarity and AI writing checker sold to schools, universities and organizations by Turnitin, LLC. Its AI writing indicator sits inside the Similarity Report, and no humanizer appears among its products.

Can Turnitin detect rewritten content?

Turnitin says its English detector flags text likely modified by AI paraphrasers and bypassers, a feature added on August 27, 2025, but it does not name the tools it tests against. Its Spanish and Japanese detectors do not include this. We have not tested Turnitin ourselves.

How accurate is Turnitin?

Turnitin says it aims to keep false positives under 1% for documents with over 20% AI writing, and that it may miss some AI text: a 50% score could mean up to 65% AI writing. It says the score should not be the sole basis for action against a student.

Can students use Turnitin?

Not on their own: Turnitin sells only to institutions, and AI writing detection is not included in individual credits. Its guides disagree on whether students can see the AI report; one says it is not visible to students, while a newer one says instructors can make it available.

Will my writing sound robotic after a rewrite?

It should read more naturally, not less. Any automated rewrite can change wording or details, so compare it with your draft before you use it.
