How the AI homework helper works

  1. Step 1

    Snap, upload or type

Take a photo with your phone, upload an image, paste a screenshot or type the problem. Pick the subject so the solver knows what to expect.

  2. Step 2

    Get every step

The solver restates the problem, works through it step by step and says why each step works, with clean math formatting.

  3. Step 3

    Ask about any step

Stuck on a step? Ask a follow-up, request a simpler explanation or a similar practice problem.

AP Physics 1: find the current in a circuit. This is the solver’s actual output for a practice problem we wrote.

AP Physics 1 practice problem: Series–parallel circuit, 12 V

Problem: Find the current through the 6 Ω resistor in the circuit where a 12 V battery is connected to a 4 Ω resistor in series with a parallel combination of a 6 Ω resistor and a 12 Ω resistor.

Steps

  1. Simplify the parallel resistors: The 6 Ω and 12 Ω resistors are in parallel. For two resistors in parallel, their equivalent resistance is found using

so . This works because parallel branches share the same voltage, so their equivalent resistance combines inversely.

  2. Find the total circuit resistance: This parallel equivalent is in series with the 4 Ω resistor, so

Series resistances add directly because the same current flows through both.

  3. Find the total current from the battery: Using Ohm's law ,

This is the current that flows through the 4 Ω resistor before splitting between the two parallel branches.

  4. Find the voltage across the parallel combination: The voltage drop across the 4 Ω series resistor is

The remaining voltage appears across the parallel pair: This 6 V is the voltage across both the 6 Ω and 12 Ω resistors, since parallel branches share the same voltage.

  5. Find the current through the 6 Ω resistor: Apply Ohm's law to just the 6 Ω resistor:

Answer: The current through the 6 Ω resistor is .

AI Homework Helper FAQ

Is the Homework Helper free?

Yes. You can solve 3 problems a day, with follow-up questions, without signing up. Every paid plan includes unlimited homework help, with a fair-use limit of 100 problems a day.

How accurate is it?

We wrote 57 practice problems in the style of Algebra, Precalculus, AP® Calculus, AP® Physics 1, AP® Chemistry, AP® Statistics and the SAT, including handwritten, photographed and diagram problems. In our October 2026 test the solver reached the correct final answer on all 57. That is a small set we made ourselves, not a guarantee: AI can misread a photo or make a mistake, so check each step.

Which subjects can it help with?

Math from pre-algebra to AP® Calculus and Statistics, physics, chemistry and biology problems, including ones with graphs, tables, circuits and geometry diagrams. For essay prompts it gives an outline and tips rather than a finished essay.

Can it read handwriting?

Usually, yes. Write clearly, keep one problem per photo and avoid shadows and glare. If a photo is hard to read, the solver says so instead of guessing.

Is my photo stored?

No. Your photo is sent to our AI provider, Volcano Engine (ByteDance), which runs the model on servers in China, to produce the solution, and RewriteMax does not save it. Your recent problems are kept only in your own browser. See the privacy policy for details.

Is using it cheating?

It depends on your class. Use the steps to learn the method and check your own work, and follow your teacher’s and school’s rules on AI tools. Don’t submit AI answers as your own work where that isn’t allowed.
