How the AI math solver works

  1. Step 1

    Snap, upload or type

Take a photo with your phone, upload an image, paste a screenshot or type the problem. Pick the subject so the solver knows what to expect.

  2. Step 2

    Get every step

The solver restates the problem, works through it step by step and says why each step works, with clean math formatting.

  3. Step 3

    Ask about any step

Stuck on a step? Ask a follow-up, request a simpler explanation or a similar practice problem.

AP Calculus AB: read an integral from a graph. This is the solver’s actual output for a practice problem we wrote.

AP Calculus AB practice problem: g(x) = ∫₀ˣ f(t) dt from a graph

Problem: The graph of on is shown. Let . (a) Find . (b) At what does have its absolute maximum on ?

Part (a)

Steps

  1. , which equals the net area between the graph of and the -axis from to .
  2. From to , . This is a rectangle with width and height :

  3. From to , decreases linearly from to . This is a triangle above the -axis with base and height :

  4. From to , decreases linearly from to . This is a triangle below the -axis, so its contribution is negative. It has base and height :

  5. Add the signed areas:

Part (b)

Steps

  1. By the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus, . So increases when and decreases when .
  2. On , , so is increasing on this interval.
  3. At , .
  4. On , , so is decreasing on this interval.
  5. Since increases up to and decreases afterward, reaches its absolute maximum at .

Answer: (a) . (b) has its absolute maximum at .

AI Math Solver FAQ

Is the Math Solver free?

Yes. You can solve 3 problems a day, with follow-up questions, without signing up. Every paid plan includes unlimited homework help, with a fair-use limit of 100 problems a day.

How accurate is it?

We wrote 57 practice problems in the style of Algebra, Precalculus, AP® Calculus, AP® Physics 1, AP® Chemistry, AP® Statistics and the SAT, including handwritten, photographed and diagram problems. In our October 2026 test the solver reached the correct final answer on all 57. That is a small set we made ourselves, not a guarantee: AI can misread a photo or make a mistake, so check each step.

Which math can it solve?

Arithmetic and pre-algebra through Algebra 1 and 2, geometry, trigonometry, precalculus, AP® Calculus AB and BC (limits, derivatives, integrals, series) and AP® Statistics, plus SAT and ACT math. It also reads graphs, tables and geometry diagrams.

Can it read handwriting?

Usually, yes. Write clearly, keep one problem per photo and avoid shadows and glare. If a photo is hard to read, the solver says so instead of guessing.

Is my photo stored?

No. Your photo is sent to our AI provider, Volcano Engine (ByteDance), which runs the model on servers in China, to produce the solution, and RewriteMax does not save it. Your recent problems are kept only in your own browser. See the privacy policy for details.

Is using it cheating?

It depends on your class. Use the steps to learn the method and check your own work, and follow your teacher’s and school’s rules on AI tools. Don’t submit AI answers as your own work where that isn’t allowed.
